How listening to Music helps with Exercise 🚴🏻‍♂️

While I was on my run last night, it occurred to me how much listening to music helped with my exercising. Especially with running, listening to music seems to give me more energy. I can keep my pace with the rhythm / beat of each song. It also prevents me from noticing or listening to my heavy breathing or heart rate which would probably discourage me from running further as it would be evidence that I was getting more worn out. I wondered if there was any actual research done before that looked into if listening to music actually did help people with exercising. Turns out there was. I thought that if I decided to go for a run one night while not listening to music, I would run significantly shorter than if I had been listening to music. That night I hit my record time of running for 33 minutes.

According to The National Center for Health Research, listening to music while exercising not only reduces boredom, it also can improve the quality of your workout by increasing your stamina and improving your mood. Especially music that is synchronized with your workout is shown to have physical and psychological effects. I have experienced this with running. When I run to the beat of a song it is much more satisfying than running off-beat and this makes sense.
